Statement of ARTBA President & CEO Pete Ruane Regarding the 2008 Presidential & Congressional Election Results
Washington, D.C. [November 05, 2008]— “We will work closely with the new Obama Administration and Congress to make transportation investment a national priority and a core foundation of a robust economic recovery, growth and competitiveness plan. “America needs a ‘one-two punch.’ In the immediate short term, Congress should pass a targeted and carefully structured infrastructure investment plan that can quickly stimulate the economy. There are more than 3,000 projects nationwide totaling some $18 billion that are ready to go, and when funded will immediately create hundreds of thousands of jobs not just in construction, but at every point along the supply chain. “For the long term, it is imperative that President-elect Obama and the new Congress take action next year to approve multi-year authorization bills that significantly boost federal highway, transit, bridge and airport investment programs to shore up our ailing infrastructure network.”
Established in 1902, ARTBA represents the transportation design and construction industry in the Nation’s Capital. Additional information about the association can be found at www.artba.org. ###
